Pitino: Louisville should take on NCAA

Former Louisville coach Rick Pitino believes the school should take legal action against the NCAA after the governing body nullified the Cardinals of the 2013 men's basketball title.

Pitino, speaking from his attorney's offices in New York, said that the NCAA's decision to have Louisville vacate the title as part of sanctions for a sex scandal was unfair.

"I don't know if this Board of Trustees will do that," Pitino said when asked if Louisville should take legal action, "but they should because the players deserve it."

Virginia secures top seed in ACC tourney

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) Top-ranked Virginia accomplished its first goal of the season. The next ones on the list will only get more difficult.

Ty Jerome scored 18 points and the Cavaliers held off depleted Georgia Tech 65-54 on Wednesday night, clinching at least a share of the regular season title and the top seed next month in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Oklahoma State stuns No. 6 Texas Tech

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma State rewarded fans who braved the snow and ice with a memorable experience.

Kendall Smith scored 21 points to help the Cowboys stun No. 6 Texas Tech 79-71 on Wednesday night. Many students who were part of the crowd of 7,092 rushed the court after the game, though it was tame by Oklahoma State's standards.

Allen has 28, No. 5 Duke rips Louisville

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Grayson Allen scored 28 points and No. 5 Duke routed Louisville 82-56 on Wednesday night.

Freshman big man Wendell Carter Jr. finished with 18 points and a season-high five assists, and Gary Trent Jr. had 11 points to help the Blue Devils (23-5, 11-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) win their fourth straight game - all coming with star freshman Marvin Bagley III out with a sprained knee.

Bridges' 27 help No. 3 Villanova cruise

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Phil Booth returned to Villanova's lineup, and it looked as if he never left.

Booth had 14 points in his comeback from a broken right hand that sidelined him for seven games, and Mikal Bridges scored 27 points to lead No. 3 Villanova to a 93-62 victory over DePaul on Wednesday night.

No. 4 Xavier downs Hoyas to bounce back

WASHINGTON (AP) Despite winning four straight games in the nation's capital, Xavier coach Chris Mack is happy that the Big East has never held its conference tournament in DC.

His leading scorer, Trevon Bluiett, has scored over 2,000 points in his Musketeers career but he's combined for just three points in his last two visits to Washington.

UNC holds on to hand Syracuse tough loss

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) When Syracuse threatened one final time, Joel Berry II had an answer for North Carolina.

Theo Pinson scored a career-high 23 points, Berry added 18, including the tiebreaking layup with 1:36 left, and the No. 10 Tar Heels held off the Orange 78-74 on Wednesday night.

Harper, Okeke lead No. 12 Auburn by Tide

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Jared Harper scored 21 points, Chuma Okeke had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 12 Auburn beat rival Alabama 90-71 Wednesday night even without ailing star Mustapha Heron.

Down to seven scholarship players, the Tigers (24-4, 12-3 Southeastern Conference) turned a five-point halftime lead into a blowout thanks largely to big performances from Okeke and Malik Dunbar off the bench.

Morris has 25 as Shockers outlast Tulane

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) After seeing his team cut a 16-point halftime deficit down to four with four minutes remaining, Tulane coach Mike Dunleavy hoped a trap would provide a turnover to make it a one-possession game.

Wichita State senior guard Conner Frankamp did not allow that to happen.
