Ex-Irish QB Wimbush transferring to UCF

Former Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush says he is transferring to Central Florida, where he will be eligible to play next season as a graduate transfer.

Wimbush announced on social media Monday he would attend UCF next season. He started 16 games for the Fighting Irish over the last two seasons, including the first three of 2018. Wimbush lost his starting job to Ian Book, but helped the Irish to a 12-0 regular season.

Wimbush passed for 2,606 yards and 20 touchdowns and ran for 1,155 yards and 16 scores at Notre Dame.


Arkansas gets former SMU QB Hicks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Former SMU quarterback Ben Hicks will play his final year at Arkansas.

Hicks made the announcement on Twitter . He will reunite with Arkansas coach Chad Morris and coordinator Joe Craddock, who recruited him to SMU in 2015.


Ex-Utah State player denies rape charges

LOGAN, Utah (AP) A former Utah State University football player denied charges that he sexually assaulted six women while he was in college.

Torrey Green testified Tuesday that he wished he had told women he dated in college he wasn't interested in long-term relationships, but he insisted he did not assault them, the Salt Lake Tribune reported . He countered detailed testimony given earlier by the six women who reported they were assaulted under similar circumstances, many after meeting Green on a dating site.


Murray spurns A's, will enter NFL draft

Kyler Murray, the first-round Major League Baseball draft pick and Heisman Trophy-winning Oklahoma quarterback, declared himself eligible for the NFL draft on Monday.

Murray announced his decision in a tweet , ending his brief and storied college career. What's next for the Murray is not yet known.


LSU Butkus winner White to turn pro

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) LSU All-America and Butkus Award-winning linebacker Devin White says he has decided to enter the 2019 NFL draft and forgo his remaining season of eligibility to play for the Tigers.

White, who made the announcement in a video released Monday on social media, is the third player from the 2018 Tigers to leave school early to turn pro, joining defensive back Greedy Williams and interior defensive lineman Ed Alexander.

Wilson becomes the seventh Crimson Tide player and fourth defender to declare for the draft since losing to Clemson in the national title game.

WASHINGTON (AP) Junk food for athletes? President Donald Trump's offer of greasy burgers and fries to the college football champion Clemson Tigers brought a roasting from late-night TV hosts.

Trump, a fast-food lover, said he paid for the meal himself because of the partial government shutdown, which has led to furloughs among federal workers, including at the White House.


Wash. St. to create Gleason research lab

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) Washington State is creating a neuroscience center named for former Cougars and New Orleans Saints defensive back Steve Gleason.

The Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience is expected to open at the school's satellite campus in Spokane in the second half of the year.


Pitt hires ex-UMass coach Whipple as OC

PITTSBURGH (AP) Pittsburgh is turning to former Massachusetts head coach Mark Whipple to rejuvenate its offense.

The Panthers hired Whipple as offensive coordinator on Monday. Whipple replaces Shawn Watson, who was fired earlier this month after the Panthers finished near the bottom of the Atlantic Coast Conference in nearly every major offensive category. Pitt finished 97th in the country in total offense, 93rd in scoring offense and 120th in passing offense.
