ChiSox C Castillo gets 80-game PED ban

NEW YORK (AP) Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo was suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball on Thursday following a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance.

The commissioner's office cited use of EPO. Erythropoietin is a hormone that stimulates the red-blood cell production and often turns up in test results for cyclists.

Castillo apologized in a statement through the players' union, saying he has "let many people down." He pointed to an "extremely poor decision that I, and I alone, made. I take full responsibility for my conduct."

Angels push back next Ohtani mound start

TORONTO (AP) The Los Angeles Angels are pushing back Shohei Otani's next outing as a starting pitcher to manage the workload of the two-way rookie.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia made the announcement Thursday.

Arrieta beats Braves, Phils take 2 of 3

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Jake Arrieta aced up.

Arrieta struck out seven in 6 2/3 sharp innings, Carlos Santana's swinging-bunt broke a scoreless tie and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 4-0 on Wednesday night.

Red Sox rally in 9th to win 4th in row

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) The Boston Red Sox didn't need much offense to win their fourth straight game Wednesday night.

The 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays was accomplished with six strong innings from David Price and a three-run ninth sparked by an RBI double by Xander Bogaerts. The Rays, who have lost nine of 12 to the Red Sox this season, contributed an error, a wild pitch and a passed ball to the big inning.

Rangers survive 4 Yanks HRs in 12-10 win

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) The Bronx Bombers are slugging homers at a record pace, and that still wasn't enough to beat last-place Texas.

Jurickson Profar had a bases-clearing double that put the Rangers ahead to stay in a wild 12-10 win Wednesday night, when New York hit four more homers to match a big league record with 21 long balls in a five-game stretch.

Ex-OF Dykstra busted for threats, drugs

LINDEN, N.J. (AP) Former baseball star Lenny Dykstra put a gun to the head of an Uber driver when the driver declined to change the trip's destination, police said the driver told them Wednesday.

Dykstra was arrested early Wednesday outside Linden police headquarters after the driver stopped and ran out of the car. Police said they found cocaine, MDMA and marijuana among Dykstra's belongings, but didn't find a weapon.

Brewers extend Diamondbacks' slide to 7

MILWAUKEE (AP) The tables did not turn for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Milwaukee.

Travis Shaw hit a three-run homer and Jesus Aguilar had a go-ahead, two-run single during a seven-run fourth inning to help the Brewers beat Arizona 9-2 Wednesday and send the Diamondbacks to their seventh straight loss.

NEW YORK (AP) Jacob deGrom isn't getting much help from his closer.

Jeurys Familia gave up RBI singles to J.T. Realmuto and Starlin Castro in the ninth inning, and the Miami Marlins rallied for a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday night to spoil another splendid outing by deGrom.
